Delta Refund Policy 2026: What Actually Applies

The Delta refund policy 2026 has three overlapping layers. DOT rules override everything when Delta cancels or significantly delays. Delta's 24-hour risk-free policy lets you cancel any fare within 24 hours of booking. Fare-class rules govern voluntary cancellations outside that window.

  Award tickets: SkyMiles restored + cash taxes refunded. No cancellation fee.

Every US airline must offer 24-hour refund on direct bookings at least 7 days before departure. Delta extends this to all fare classes including Basic Economy, when booked directly through delta.com or Delta phone agents.

  Significant delay (3+ hour domestic, 6+ hour international): refund if you decline rebooking.

  Downgrade: partial refund for fare difference.

For voluntary cancellations of Main Cabin and above, Delta issues eCredits. These are valid 1 year from the original issue date. Can be used on any delta.com booking.
