Cosmopolitan!!! An adjective synonymous to Dubai comes into the display when Dubai hosts one of the most sought-after multicultural event – Global Village. We will take you through the numerous retail, dining and amusement options this place has to offer through its numerous pavilions from around the world, hence the name, Global Village.
What is the Global Village?
Global Village is undoubtedly a one-stop destination in Dubai, spread over a massive 1.6 million sq meters and brings together culture, food and shopping from over 90 countries under one roof. It started off in 1996 as a few kiosks depicting different countries coming together on the Creek Side near Dubai Municipality. Today, Global Village is located over a massive venue on exit 37 of the E311 highway (Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Road) and hosts around 6 million visitors over a span of just above 5 months.
How to get there?
Global Village is hard to miss on the E311 highway, no matter which direction you are headed. About 30 minutes drive from Downtown Dubai, pretty much every taxi driver and Google Maps know where it is. Also, it is very well connected by public buses from numerous prominent pickup points in Dubai. If you are a tourist, bear in mind that public buses do not accept cash in Dubai. One will have to buy an NOL prepaid card available at all metro stations and major supermarkets in Dubai.
When to visit?
Global Village runs from 30th October till 6th April, every year and is open every day from 04:00pm until midnight. The weekends (Friday & Saturday), the park is open until 01:00 am as it can get very busy, but thanks to their 18,300 car park slots, you will always find parking here if you choose to bring your own car. The benefit about going on Thursday & Friday is you will be rewarded by the beautiful view of the 3 mins long fireworks sharp at 09:00 PM on both the days. Even if you end up parking at a distance from one of the main entrances, make your life easy by availing of the free toy train service which runs through the parking spaces to and fro the main entrances.
- When is the opening of Global Village for 2019?
This month the opening of Global Village is 29th October 2019
What to expect inside?
Once you are at one of the two main entrances (Gate of the world & Cultural Gate), you will have to purchase tickets to enter the park which is very nominally priced at AED 15, and once you go through the automated gates, a whole new world opens up. The welcome courtyard is surrounded by replicas of the Eifel tower, Statue of Liberty and the Big Ben. International street artists performing here is a common sight.
Shopping: From herein, choose your way and take all the time to pay a visit to all the 27 pavilions divided into 6 themes, MENA (the Middle East & Northern African), Far East, Europe, Africa, The Americas and South Asia.
As the themes suggest, all of the 27 pavilions reflect their rich culture, artefacts, handicrafts, natural cosmetics and keepsakes. For example, at the Africa pavilion, there will be handmade wood crafts, organic shea and cocoa butter and tribal artefacts, every hour they also host their cultural dance which is really fun to watch.
The India pavilion will have spices, cotton and wool handloom, gold and silver jewellery etc for sale & there is a puppet show that India hosts. Middle east normally has honey, dates, etc. Likewise, all of these 27 pavilions will house a total of around 3000 vendors put up items for sale from around the world.

Well, that only if you had any space left in your tummy from those numerous small kiosks which are lined up one after the other, offering small bites from Thai mango and sticky rice, Italian pasta dish, Arabic shawarma, Pakistani kebabs, Turkish ice cream, American pizza, Portuguese pastel de nata. All you can possibly imagine is present there. We recommend this food stalls street over the 20 restaurants as the kiosk is set up by the locals representing their own country.
